On Friday 5th October, 2007, Zhongshan Park will host a stellar line up that will include the soul funk of Ozomatli, the sclerotic rhyme of one of the US's foremost rappers, Talib Kweli, alongside some of the most exciting Chinese music around. Shanghai will be the final date in a gruelling world tour for Faithless, who have played to over ¼ million people in the last six months. From Global Gathering to Sziget in Hungary, off the back of an amazing US tour, Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and the rest of their 8-piece band cannot wait to destroy Shanghai with their sonic and lighting assault.
Talib Kweli will be coming to China on the back of his sixth studio album, Eardrum. Approaching legendary status in the hip hop community, he has come a long way since Blackstar, the group he shared with Mos Def.
"China has long been a dream of mine" says Kweli. "It's gonna be a privilege to connect with the country that will shape our planet's destiny"
Kweli will be joined by the double Grammy winning "best live act in the world" (TimeOut Magazine) Ozomatli. This 9 piece from Los Angeles create uniqueness from a combination of hip hop, Latin, funk and soul. If you haven't seen Ozo live, then you cannot miss this opportunity.
Support in Beijing is yet to be announced, but Shanghai is proud to welcome bands from all over China. Super VC and Hedgehog from Beijing, will join local heroes, the two Bananas. Banana Monkey will rock, while the Bananas Soundsystem will roll. It's gonna be day to remember.
Enabling this landmark event to take place are our esteemed partners. Bacardi have shown commendable support for live music in China to date and step it up a level this October holiday. Converse will be adorning the feet of many of the festival goers and will also provide a home for them during the day itself. Their interactive area will add colour to the day and alternative entertainment all day long, with live graffiti and more...
We're also excited to have Neocha.com putting together a "Creative Bazaar" with 10 leading representatives of Shanghai’s creative community. And, Namaste Yoga Shala will conduct a free demo yoga workshop with Master Duncan Wong. All in the park on the day!
All the international bands will play a warm-up gig in Beijing on 2nd and 3rd October at The Star Live. The main festival will take place in Shanghai on Friday 5th October during the National Day Golden Week, starting at noon, and finishing at 10.30pm. Zhongshan Park will make an idyllic backdrop to what promises to be the musical event of the summer.
